Intent and Impact:
Intent
We wanted a curriculum that would create happy, resilient pupils
who are able to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and
relationships. Both the Junior and Infant schools follow the Jigsaw curriculum.
We decided to go with this provider as we believed that the continuity
of knowledge and skills progression across both schools would ensure a
progresssive spiral curriculum.
We have identified the needs of our pupils from local data and recognise
that the Jigsaw curriculum must be adapted to ensure rigor in the following
areas:
- Healthy eating
- Oral hygiene
- Physical activity
- violent knife crime.
The structure of Jigsaw gives teachers confidence to deliver the lessons.
Lesson plans are sequenced to ensure content is taught explicitly at age
appropriate level whilst teachers are developing their pedagogy in this
area.
Impact
The impact of PSHE lessons will not only be evident through
pupils assessment. Delivering a high quality PSHE curriculum will improve
relationships and emotional literacy across the school. Children will be
empowered. They will have the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions
throughout their lives.
